The Project

The new fully accessible station at Reston on the East Coast Main Line (ECML) in Berwickshire is a £20 million investment by the Scottish Government to improve access to rail services in the Scottish Borders.

It will allow connectivity options to local public transport services, active travel provision and 70 park and ride car parking spaces, including over 20 electric vehicle charging stations.

The Requirements

Efficient linear drainage was required to provide effective surface drainage to passenger platforms.

Due to depth restrictions, it was necessary to install a shallow channel system.

The client expected a high-quality solution to complement the station design and to ensure safety during operation.

Our Solution

RECYFIX PRO 100 Type 75 Shallow Channel fitted with FIBRETEC gratings (C 250) was the chosen surface drainage system, as this met project requirements.

The channel had an overall height of 75mm, so could be accommodated within the shallow construction depth available on site. A smooth internal surface ensured efficient hydraulics even with a reduced channel profile.

The system combination of RECYFIX PRO with FIBRETEC gratings has already been used at other UK railway facilities, due to its suitability for use on platforms adjacent to electrified lines.

Both the channel and grating are made from strong and durable composite materials, so the system is none-conducting and anti-static for maximum safety (no earthing works required).

FIBRETEC gratings bring additional benefits:

  • 100% corrosion free (no oxidation) to maintain a highly aesthetic appearance.
  • Anti-Slip and HeelSafe slots for a safe surface environment.
  • Polyamide (PA-GF) composite for improved strength and durability.
