Amey to provide sustainable solutions and enhanced electrification on almost a quarter of Britain’s railway

Amey has been selected by Network Rail to deliver its capital delivery frameworks for the North West and Central region. Comprising 571 stations, the North West and Central region sees 246.5 million annual rail passenger journeys, accounting for 24% of Britain’s railway.

In collaboration with Network Rail, Amey will drive down CO2 emissions, reduce waste and increase recycling, as well as deliver improvements in biodiversity net gain on every project site. The aim is to reduce carbon by at least 80% by 2035.

Awarded five lots across the Category B and C frameworks, Amey will provide electrification and plant works across the region for the next five years with the opportunity for a two-year extension.

This will include delivering enhancement works and schemes which cover the full asset lifecycle, with a wide variety of bespoke projects including, surveying and design, implementation, commissioning, and hand back of the railway infrastructure.

Working collaboratively with the team and our supply chain, we will work together to enhance connectivity across the UK to improve freight logistics to support businesses and trade, and to make passengers’ journeys easier.”

This framework builds on Amey’s experience in other complex, challenging infrastructure, such as on the Core Valley Lines, in Wales. Here Amey’s experienced and innovative team developed a unique, discontinuous electrification solution which closely integrates train and track.

It also enhances Amey’s presence in the North West and Central region, where it was recently appointed to the Engineering and Construction Services, and the Programme and Project Management Services frameworks.


The five lots covering Category B and C works are:
