Vital overhaul of Spalding level crossing begins this weekend

Essential £215,000 upgrade to the Winsover Road level crossing in Spalding starts this Saturday night (5 July), improving rail reliability and safety for all users.
Motorists and pedestrians are reminded to plan alternative routes as the level crossing will be completely closed during the following periods:
- Saturday 5 July (8.30pm) to Monday 7 July (7am)
- Saturday 12 July (8.30pm) to Monday 14 July (7am)
- Monday 11 August (9.30pm) to Tuesday 12 August (6.30am)
- Tuesday 12 August (9.30pm) to Wednesday 13 August (6.30am)
The comprehensive renovation will replace the life-expired crossing surface, deck units, cill beams (the interface between tarmac and railway), tarmac and road markings.
Matthew Story, works delivery supervisor for Network Rail, said: “This significant investment will deliver a much smoother and safer crossing for both rail and road users. We understand the disruption this essential work may cause and thank the local community for their patience while we complete these important upgrades.
“The current crossing surface has reached the end of its operational life and requires replacement to ensure continued safety and reliability. We’ve scheduled much of the work overnight and during weekends to minimise disruption to the public.”
Road diversions will be clearly signposted throughout the closure periods. The work has been scheduled when very few trains are running to minimise disruption to passenger journeys and local residents.
