Mimer Vehicle Panel - Smart & Rugged Communication for Transport Operators 

Standard radio remote control heads often include more functions than a train or bus driver needs. To provide a more efficient and user-friendly experience, we have developed a custom operator panel designed to include only the necessary controls—along with a few additional features that are typically not found on conventional radio panels. Each unit is purpose-built to fit the specific compartment layout available in the driver’s cabin, ensuring a clean, functional integration. 

Smart Integration with Onboard Systems 

This rugged operator panel features a high-quality touchscreen interface that manages both the radio and other essential onboard systems. It connects directly to the TETRA PEI port and can be customized to interface with a wide range of other onboard technologies. Drivers can easily input route information, such as the line number, destination, and the number of cars in the train—all via the intuitive touchscreen. SDS messages are displayed clearly on the screen, while analog controls for volume and the emergency alarm provide tactile, reliable operation. An integrated speaker ensures clear audio communication, and a service menu with configurable software allows for updates and adjustments as needed. 

Proven in Real-World Use 

This solution has been in successful operation for several years, with over 800 units deployed in the Stockholm Metro. For this project, one key requirement was to maintain the look and feel of the legacy system that had been in use for more than 15 years. As such, much of the design was predefined to ensure continuity and ease of use for the operators. Despite these constraints, the final product delivered significant functional improvements while preserving familiarity.

The panel is engineered to meet strict standards for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), shock, vibration, and environmental durability. The front panel, including the speaker, is fully waterproof, making it suitable for harsh transport environments. The mechanical layout and external connections can be fully customized to suit your specific space and system requirements.

Importantly, the panel operates without any publicly available operating system such as Windows or Android, which significantly reduces the risk of hacking or malware—ensuring long-term security and stability.
