As the world strives to build a kinder, greener and more prosperous future, UIC is launching the first International Sustainable Railway Awards (ISRA). ISRA recognises railway projects and initiatives for social, environmental and economic sustainability.

The awards form part of UIC’s vision for the future of rail, sharing worldwide best practice and encouraging growth in the sector. Long-distance, regional and urban passenger and freight rail operators, infrastructure owners and managers and national and local governments are eligible to enter their projects and initiatives.

Applications are now open on the awards website https://sustainablerailway.awardstage.com. The deadline for applications is 10 December.

Across 12 categories, organisations can receive recognition for their teams’ work in driving the sustainable agenda – from stations to trains, emergency pandemic response to social outreach and supporting the local environment.

ISRA culminates in a gala ceremony to be held on the evening of Thursday 17 February 2022. The ceremony will be hosted by UIC’s Simon Fletcher, Director Europe, and Lucie Anderton, Head of Sustainable Development, who have acted as chief advisors in the organisation of the event.

A handpicked jury of experts will be led by co-presidents Christian Kern, Former Federal Chancellor of the Republic of Austria and Ms Anderton, who will choose from the most inspirational work driving the green revolution.

The UIC International Sustainable Railway Awards are organised by the International Railway Summit, a unique networking event for the global rail sector. The ceremony will be held in parallel with the 11th edition of the summit. The awards build on the summit’s reputation for bringing together international railway leaders and sharing world-class innovative ideas.

Organisations and individuals interested in learning more about ISRA can visit https://sustainablerailway.awardstage.com or contact the organisers at rahul.talreja@irits.org.
