Creating future growth opportunities to dominate agenda at the Rail Station Development and Regeneration Conference

This year’s Rail Station Development and Regeneration Conference, which takes place on Tuesday 27 June at the international law firm, Addleshaw Goddard in London, will focus on how industry can practically deliver station development that unlocks wider area development and economic growth.

With recent media headlines being dominated by rail strikes and disruptions, the conference will help provide a timely moment for industry figures to take stock and establish a positive set of priorities to push forward in the year ahead, and beyond.

Many of the UK’s leading rail and property experts will convene to debate topics including regenerating local areas, maximising use of property, and improving passenger experience.

There will be plenty of networking opportunities for attendees, which will help provide senior stakeholders with the opportunity to discuss how to collaborate effectively on new and ongoing projects.

The one-day event will also provide important policy updates and explore several different areas in rail development and regeneration including:

  • how to overcome current challenges associated with development at stations
  • practical advice on maximising community benefits
  • accessibility and economic growth created through station investment

Among the keynote speakers at this year’s event will be Robin Dobson, Group Property Director at Network Rail. He’ll examine meeting the changing needs of stations and the role of stations in wider economic growth.

Tim Shaw, Senior Development Director at Solum Regeneration JV, will explore practical ways to unlocking opportunities for wider development in housing and commercial development.

The event will also stage a number of panel discussions. Mark Powles, Customer and Commercial Director at Northern, Verinder Supria, Head of Passenger Strategy for Anglia at Network Rail, and Dave Haskins, Interim Director – Transport Policy and Delivery at West Yorkshire Combined Authority, will discuss changing passenger trends and offer practical ways to improve customer experience.

The conference will be chaired by Jonathan Chatfield, Head of Railway Strategy & Policy at the Rail Delivery Group. He has over 30 years’ experience in the GB rail industry, having previously worked for a train operator and Network Rail.

Mr Chatfield said: “This conference brings together some of the best thinkers and innovators in the rail industry, to help us explore the biggest challenges facing the rail station development and regeneration industry, and the wider regeneration opportunities.

“It’s a key time for the sector as we look to develop innovations and grow confidently, after a period of economic turbulence in the UK. Creating growth opportunities for stations and the wider community is sure to be a major priority for senior stakeholders in the rail infrastructure sector.

“They’ll be an opportunity to network in-person with senior representatives from rail and property, including those leading on station development projects. We look forward to welcoming all our attendees.”

The event is being organised by Waterfront Conference Company. Waterfront delivers physical and virtual policy conferences for the planning, energy, rail, ports and maritime sectors.
